Review: Apple's anticipated pre-summer blockbuster, "Ghosted" (2023), may have seemed like a commercial powerhouse on paper, boasting a catchy title, input from the Deadpool team, Marvel writers, and a proven star pairing in Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. However, the reality of "Ghosted," the movie, is a disastrous compilation of increasingly misguided decisions, serving as a disheartening reflection of the pitfalls in today's oversaturated streaming landscape.

The film appears to be content dictated by an algorithm at its worst, carelessly and lifelessly assembled, prompting comparisons to possibly being the first film created entirely by artificial intelligence. "Ghosted" is described as almost avant-garde in its all-encompassing awfulness, displaying sheer contempt for the essential elements expected from a movie.

The plot revolves around Cole (Chris Evans), a farmer and history academic, who meets the mysterious art curator Sadie (Ana de Armas). After an awkward date and being mysteriously "ghosted," Cole inexplicably decides to track her down, leading to a bizarre series of events involving espionage and a run from unknown adversaries.

While the film's heightened material allows for suspension of disbelief, "Ghosted" fails to achieve any semblance of authenticity. From robotic dialogue to an uncomfortably asexual central pairing and subpar green-screen work, the film's synthetic nature is jarring. Director Dexter Fletcher, known for the Elton John biopic "Rocketman," appears to have transitioned into big-budget anonymity, with "Ghosted" feeling more like a product of disinterested tech executives than a creative endeavor.

The pairing of Evans and Armas is deemed disastrously misjudged, raising questions about the industry's perception of stardom. The lackluster script and uncomfortable on-screen chemistry contribute to a sense of detachment, reminiscent of last year's "Red Notice." The performances, including Adrien Brody's exaggerated French villain and Amy Sedaris' portrayal of a stock photo mom turned sentient, feel like mere paycheck work, lacking enthusiasm or engagement.

In conclusion, "Ghosted" stands as a disappointing testament to the challenges faced in an industry where creative vision and genuine entertainment seem overshadowed by formulaic decisions and disinterested star power.
